REVIEW

“Sheer tranquility” 5 of 5 stars

Have just got back from a week stay at the farmhouse, what a lovely setting!! We were a grown up family of 5 with 3 dogs.. After an epic 7 hour journey there, thanks to the road works at the m4/m5 interchange, oh and it was bank holiday weekend!! We arrived, after negotiating the track to the farm, (don't take a sports car there!) we unleashed the hounds from the car and it was marvolous to see the sheer joy on their face at the space. Being town people we were initially concerned re lack of gates, how wrong were we! They were able to run everywhere in safety.

The house was clean tidy and catered for everything. It has a real homely feel and the heating came on to make it warm and cozy (of course there was vertical rain it was bank holiday and August). The stream at the bottom of the property was great as due to the rain it gurgled away and could be heard from the house which was very soothing. Our only issue was the lack of water * for 12 hours. However the staff at the castle were great as usual, they bought up containers and got a plumber out as soon as possible. We visited the castle several times and had a warm, friendly welcome. Near by is a great pub called the Ancient Briton, (camra regional pub of the year 2012) it had a great choice of local real ales and ciders, and did 4 pint take-outs, the food there looked great but we didn't get a chance to sample it.

Another interesting trip is to the nearby distillery Penderyn. It is small but very interesting and great tasting session. The guide, Nest, was witty and knowledgable. We would definitely recommend.

This is a great location for groups, families with small children and couples. We enjoyed the informal atmosphere, and great family meals together. We would highly recommend it for a stay. And would happily return for another visit.

Stayed August 2012, travelled with family

* Water to the farm is via a borehole. A CPU that regulates the water pressure was cutting out / tripping and it regularly needed switching on again. The CPU has now been replaced and the water is reliable. Should it ever trip again, it's easy to switch it back on. However please do not alter the 'bar pressure' settings as this also affects how the pump system works.
